In early 2006, a steering committee composed of three Lower Mainland family law lawyers and mediators (Phyllis Kenney, Nancy Cameron and John-Paul Boyd) and a clinical counsellor and collaborative divorce coach (Deborah Brakeley) began to work toward the establishment of parenting coordination as a new legal mechanism to deal with the unique issues of high-conflict parents.
After a series of interdisciplinary workshops with Dr. Joan Kelly, a prominent psychologist deeply involved in issues relating to separation, the court process and parenting coordination in California, an Executive Committee was formed to guide the work of new subcommittees dedicated to exploring a variety of the practical, ethical and legal issues involved in parenting coordination before coordination could be introduced in this province.
The BC Parenting Coordinators Roster was officially launched on 26 September 2007.
At present, the Executive Committee is engaged in organizing a general meeeting of our membership and in incorporating the BC Parenting Coordinators Roster as a non-profit society. Upon incorporation, the Executive Committee will be replaced by a Board of Directors.
